Lost Cargo

I still remember the day this gemstone washed up right next to where I was standing in the water. At first I thought it was a piece of sea glass, but upon further inspection, it appears to be a lost gemstone from the setting of a ring. Someone lost this, yet what are the odds of them finding something they once lost at sea?

It was June 2008, when I found the gemstone, the same day we had beached our lobster boat in order to perform a minor repair. Below is a picture I took that day.

Today, quite literally in the same area as the above picture, we spotted a lobster trap washed up on shore. Possibly due to the over 60 mph wind gusts we had here yesterday -- the same ones responsible for last night's power outage.

For some reason, Henri decided to check to see if it could, quite possibly, be the trap we lost back in October when we were on our last haul of the season.

Each trap has a tag with the licensee's number stamped on it. Turns out, it was one of ours.

It sure is a vast ocean and we're not sure what the odds are of that happening.

But all we know is, today, our lost cargo found it's way back to us.

Wow. I threw a ring out a window in 1993. I think it was in Hudson or East Corinth, somewhere with a lot of corn. If you stumble upon it on the beach, let me know, I'd really like it back.

Lisa

How interesting that it came back to you - now wouldn't it be weird if through the internet someone could identify the stone.

Wow, very cool story and that stone is so pretty, have you had it made into anything yet?

I need to live near you, the only thing that has ever washed up on our shore is an old plastic lawn chair! :(

What a fabulous story. I love the idea of putting a message in a bottle and seeing where it ends up.

Quite the find...everyone dreams and wishes upon a sea star that they find abandoned or lost treasure on the shore. Good for you!! Looking at your photo, it appears that the same process of hydration was taking place just like in sea glass. Do you know what kind of stone this is? I would be curious to know. ;) Here's hoping I too stumble upon a catch like this. Fair Winds and Calm Seas, Deborah Leon www.mermaidspurseseaglass.com

Lisa, I wanna hear YOUR story about the ring!
JoAnn, Yes, I wonder what the odds would be of that happening, couldn't possibly, could it???
Kat, Nope, still have the little nugget setting right here in a special place.
Leeann, I cherish my first ever blog award from you! Merci beaucoup
Dear Lillie, Thanks much, it was very cool!
Deborah at Mermaids Purse, I believe it's either an amber color, yet almost as dark as a garnet, And yes it has begun to take on the patina of real sea glass.
Mickey, Oh that reminds me...forgot to buy a lottery ticket after that!

Thanks everyone for your comments, I enjoy them so much!
