A Day of Ice Fishing in Acadia

We were the first to arrive at Eagle Lake in Acadia National Park this morning to begin a day of ice fishing. This was our first trip of the season. We decided to forego the lure of the free fishing that begins tomorrow, remembering it is always more serene on a week day.

I must have taken several hundred pictures here today, enjoying all the subtle changes in the light as the day progressed.

But I will show restraint in my post.

Eventually we got a little hungry.

Good thing I packed us a picnic basket.

Before we left, we took a walk on the trail that circles around the lake.

Except we did not circle around the lake, because it would have been dark before we even made it half way around. But that was okay, because I got to spend the entire day here with my favorite guy in a place that I truly love.

A Pocket Full of Sunshine

If you were to borrow any one of my coats or jackets, you would no doubt find a pretty piece of sea glass in the pocket.

Today was a pretty day for a quick pass on the shore, on our way back from our walk. Most of our snow has melted and we have somehow managed to miss the last 2 storms that have taken their toll our our more southern coastal neighbors.

You can actually see two sets of footprints where Henri and I made our way along this small stretch of shore.

In a matter of minutes, this is what I found and tucked into my pocket. It's almost like they were a line of bread crumbs leading me back to the car. Sunny days are perfect for finding sea glass.

Here's what I did with the wire wrapped glass you see in the first picture. I added it to our bedroom chandelier.

Along with a few glass pendants.

It's just a simple thing that I enjoyed doing.

Would you like a pocket full of sunshine to play with too?

Leave me a comment or become a new follower and I will randomly pick someone on St. Valentines Day to receive these 16 pieces of sea glass I randomly found right here in Sorrento, Maine. They include the 8, that I just found today. Also, please make sure you leave your contact information in case your name is selected.

Heartbreaker

Even on a gloomy day, this place where we live never disappoints.

Today I stole a few moments from our walk to beach comb. Right away I found some sea glass. Besides the obvious 2 green pieces, do you notice the other one in this shot?

It's a nice sized chunk that I pulled out of there and it looks like carnival glass to me.

But you're probably wondering what all this has to do with the title of my post.

It's because of this.

It's a new shade of nail polish that is called heartbreaker.

That's Henri, standing way over there in his red jacket, patiently waiting for me.

But once I'm here, I always find it hard to tear myself away from this place.

I chose that nail polish because it reminds me of the color of the ocean, on a not-so-gloomy day.

If it were me though, I think I would have named it l'amour de la mer.

Happiness Is Nurturing Your Seedy Side

My seed catalog is here!

This vibrant image on the back cover is just a tease for the exotic beauties waiting inside.

It doesn't even phase me a bit that my garden is still cloaked in her winter finery,

or, that the only green in my Terra cotta pot is lichen.

Life is very good. My seed catalog has arrived!

Stained Glass Class No. 2

Our teacher demonstrates the art of soldering on one of her pieces. The first step was to wrap copper foil around all the pieces, apply flux and then you're ready for the solder.

Then she passes the torch to me. It was very hot. 700 degrees F. If you linger a little too long on the seam you are soldering, you run the risk of cracking your glass.

Phew! It survived. She told me the messy parts will come right off.

This was just the first pass with the solder. Each side will get two passes. After that, the entire outside of the piece will be ready to wrap in the came. Still having fun!

Cabin Fever

About this time of year, all over Maine you can sense the beginning of ugly. I don't mean ugly as in unpleasant to look at, I'm talking ugly, as in having the temperament of a bear.

And yes, a lot of us here in Maine, tend to have at least 1 room in our house devoted to all things campy.

A room with lots of wood, where husbands would bristle at the mere mention of how a gallon of paint would sure do wonders to cheer up the place.

Fortunately, the State of Maine has come up with a cure for a mid-winter case of cabin fever.

It's a weekend of free fishing , which means you don't need to purchase a fishing license in order to fish, making it an affordable outing.

Interestingly enough, the free fishing weekend always coincides with Valentines Day. How romantic you say? Oh, and I'm talking ice fishing, where you drill holes in the ice, bait and set your trap and wait around in the cold for a flag to pop up, to let you know when you have a bite.

And let me just say, if I didn't enjoy going as much as I do, I would probably just stay home and dream about how a room of wood might look in a fresh coat of paint. Good thing I love my husband. Oh I really do.

Edgy Crochet

I love to knit, but learning how to crochet has always seemed to allude me. So today, I thought I would give it another try.

I found some instructions and patterns for making an edge on a tea towel. I gave up trying to follow the pattern because I didn't understand the instructions. What I ended up with, does not match the image of the pattern I was trying to follow, but it looked lacy enough, so I just went with it.

I hand stitched it to the bottom edge of the tea towel, but it looked a little too plain when I was finished.

I thought of adding some ribbons, but then I remembered my stash of fabrics. I love this pretty toile fabric complete with swans.

But then I decided it still needed a little something .

There, that looks about right. No?
