Just In Case

Early this morning we made our way out to Fearless to prepare for what may arrive late Friday evening. Ours was the 1st of 30 boats scheduled to be hauled out by our local Boat Transport, before Hurricane Earl is expected to arrive.

Sorrento Harbor is sheltered from the open ocean by it's surrounding islands. Look how calm it was this morning. It's hard to imagine just how bad it can get. But we're not taking any chances.

With our skiff Chowdahbucket in tow, we head back to the dock to wait for our appointment.

The sun rises as we wait.

Our turn.

That's our dentist's office in the background. They have boarded up a few of their windows already.

It sure was a short season this year for Fearless. We'll sleep good knowing she's back home though.

I didn't even get to show you any pictures from this season. So here's one Henri took of me a few weeks ago. So much for action shots, but if you look really close, that's mud on my upper arm. I had already taken off my bright orange apron, because well frankly, with my life vest under it, I look quite hefty. Plus it was covered in mud. But mostly because I don't enjoy looking more hefty than I have to.

I didn't get to show you our traditional first catch of the season either. So here's a shot of some that Henri ate.

So for now, we remain on storm watch with everyone else. Although, I suppose we really could use some rain.

We've been worrying about you guys! The weather geeks on TV showed the "spaghetti view" that puts the tracks of all the computer models on screen at once, and one of them draws a line straight at you! Please stay safe and show us some awesome pictures when it's all over.

Let's both keep our fingers crossed for all the people AND critters in the path of Earl.

So SAD to see Fearless already out of the water, but so SANE to do it in plenty of time.

We have windows to cover etc. We're on John's Bay, but right where it empties into the Atlantic. We get 15 to 20 foot waves sweeping across from Pemaquid Point. One year a few of the lobstermen just sat on our rockers and watched the boats.

Many of the lobstermen have moved their traps in the past few days.

We'll see what happens. I have friends coming next week and have promised them lobster out on the porch.

sending love,

Lili - I am praying that all goes well for you and Henri - and for your community with the possibility of this impending storm. Who would ever have thought that Maine would be at risk! Your photos are lovely - Fearless is a beautiful boat.

We are off on our own adventure soon - this weekend - say a prayer for us also -

(I will call if we head in your direction!)

We just finished bringing in the cushions from the deck furniture, closed the umbrella and made sure the trench for drainage next to the house is not clogged. They did just drop the tropical storm watch for this area. I know that your area is more at risk....I don't blame you one bit for taking the boat out.
There's a gigantic cruise ship that high tailed it to Portland overnight so that it could be in a safe harbor. I was scheduled to be here tomorrow, but came today. Actually it is the exact ship that hubby and I took to the Caribbean in June!!
Hope all goes well for you guys.
