<div>
Hello and surprise<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">! Just popping in to share a few images with you as our landscape continues to fill up with snow. I marvel at the sweetness of these tiny creatures fully exposed to our harsh winter elements. Maybe it's their voracious appetite that gets them through. Henri makes sure they are well fed.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oFUy6J_kMGI/VNdpBWIpHUI/AAAAAAAAICE/ZkQF1fi6Lcg/s640/blogger-image--1668472122.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oFUy6J_kMGI/VNdpBWIpHUI/AAAAAAAAICE/ZkQF1fi6Lcg/s640/blogger-image--1668472122.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My neighbor felt the need to apologize to me for still having her Christmas lights up just in case I thought it was a bit odd. I told her how the sight of it had already lured me outside on a 'below zero' evening just to get a photo of it. It is still a lovely and most welcome sight from our window. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iwLql4__7HE/VNebtvDaXFI/AAAAAAAAICk/Wf4VF0-9RVo/s640/blogger-image--989966159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iwLql4__7HE/VNebtvDaXFI/AAAAAAAAICk/Wf4VF0-9RVo/s640/blogger-image--989966159.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We have kept a foothpath open to my little shop across the street. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ME5wor8Gwiw/VNebrAbuCOI/AAAAAAAAICc/gGFqccDhaWs/s640/blogger-image-639531821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ME5wor8Gwiw/VNebrAbuCOI/AAAAAAAAICc/gGFqccDhaWs/s640/blogger-image-639531821.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The sky sure had a beautiful glow from that direction the other evening. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jKfu8PqO__Y/VNebpIwL5ZI/AAAAAAAAICU/YUgvrn7HkyM/s640/blogger-image--1783866475.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jKfu8PqO__Y/VNebpIwL5ZI/AAAAAAAAICU/YUgvrn7HkyM/s640/blogger-image--1783866475.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Of course there is more snow on the way. More plowing, shoveling and digging out will need to be done. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ruXqOzI99nM/VNebviRpyoI/AAAAAAAAICs/EqBWv59PZuw/s640/blogger-image-850194910.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ruXqOzI99nM/VNebviRpyoI/AAAAAAAAICs/EqBWv59PZuw/s640/blogger-image-850194910.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
If you have found your way over here, I want you to know I am thankful for your visit. I hope you too are happy with where you have chosen to spend your winter as well. Maybe one day we will decide to become "snowbirds" you just never can tell. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was inevitable. You must have known I would be back to post at some point. Today inspiration hit me as I made myself busy in my tiny backyard greenhouse moving herbs around. In my mission to shed any trace of winter left inside, I tucked a few plants into this pretty wall container. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m9G3qwVCdcs/U27AYVfruQI/AAAAAAAAHyo/2_q0sbieyk4/s1600/photo+2-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m9G3qwVCdcs/U27AYVfruQI/AAAAAAAAHyo/2_q0sbieyk4/s1600/photo+2-001.JPG" height="530" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">While outside, I found just the crowning touch for a dessert I had made earlier as I scrambled to get something together to bring my Mother tomorrow. A velvety purple viola I plucked from a few volunteer blossoms. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oUgqLTHW6JY/U260rOLE0ZI/AAAAAAAAHx4/YNm60GCk2Uk/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oUgqLTHW6JY/U260rOLE0ZI/AAAAAAAAHx4/YNm60GCk2Uk/s1600/photo+1.JPG" height="508" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You can find the dessert I made<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/168603579771349889/"> here</a> on Pinterest called Lemonies (Lemon Brownies). There is no chocolate involved, the name is simply a way of describing the consistency of these delectable squares. (I just love brown eggs, don't you?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-11uRoXQ_JTw/U261DpCVgwI/AAAAAAAAHyA/Hsp13fzU9as/s1600/lemon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-11uRoXQ_JTw/U261DpCVgwI/AAAAAAAAHyA/Hsp13fzU9as/s1600/lemon.JPG" height="494" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Still life of violas and a lemon, with a bit of zest scattered about on my time worn wooden board. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sta1Qmcpyes/U261Oml-itI/AAAAAAAAHyI/anw-PRR3I9I/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sta1Qmcpyes/U261Oml-itI/AAAAAAAAHyI/anw-PRR3I9I/s1600/photo+3.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Henri has been busy too. Here is a piece of his raku pottery fresh from yesterday's firing. I am leaving it on my kitchen counter for the time being. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-auttfUc7xfg/U261ThsdUxI/AAAAAAAAHyQ/t8cm3fBHDd4/s1600/photo+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-auttfUc7xfg/U261ThsdUxI/AAAAAAAAHyQ/t8cm3fBHDd4/s1600/photo+5.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Two more of his pieces that I had fun arranging. One in a metal stand. The other propped up to show the beautiful raku lustre inside. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k85diTvQync/U261XgVSD8I/AAAAAAAAHyY/fYneOfNyHnE/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k85diTvQync/U261XgVSD8I/AAAAAAAAHyY/fYneOfNyHnE/s1600/photo+4.JPG" height="604" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
And did you notice the 'frog' protection right there? I just love that Discover card commercial. So silly. You can view it<span style="color: lime;"> <a href="http://www.ispot.tv/ad/7GiV/discover-card-frog-protection">here</a></span>. Good to be back on here again. Happy Spring and Happy Mother's Day! And while I'm at it, Happy Birthday to our youngest daughter Angie who had a birthday today! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's good to get out out of the house, even just to go ice-fishing with my sweetie, like this past Friday on Eagle Lake in Acadia National Park. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6o522xPJDsk/Uu1FWC_XvZI/AAAAAAAAHvg/vVZcxDkuGNg/s1600/IMG_1554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6o522xPJDsk/Uu1FWC_XvZI/AAAAAAAAHvg/vVZcxDkuGNg/s1600/IMG_1554.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A close-up of drilling the first hole through the ice. Each license holder is allowed 5 holes a piece. It was so blustery though, that we only did 3 and then sat in the car to watch for flags to pop up -- an indicator that you <i>may</i> have caught something. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xoaCvINr3aQ/Uu1FWqvipfI/AAAAAAAAHvk/K9NtaAQQ5WU/s1600/IMG_1526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xoaCvINr3aQ/Uu1FWqvipfI/AAAAAAAAHvk/K9NtaAQQ5WU/s1600/IMG_1526.JPG" height="512" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For reference this is the kind of fish we were hoping to catch. Here's Henri posing with a brook trout caught in a much warmer month in Acadia. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6eML8S8fMB4/Uu_5GBATcaI/AAAAAAAAHxY/P5rdXffDuTY/s1600/IMG_4431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6eML8S8fMB4/Uu_5GBATcaI/AAAAAAAAHxY/P5rdXffDuTY/s1600/IMG_4431.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Our picnic lunch during ice fishing was a salad of baby spinach and blackened salmon. Turns out it was the only fish we laid eyes on for all of our efforts out on the ice. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LIkQ2zGf8A4/Uu1FZnT830I/AAAAAAAAHvw/5RObrom1Pl8/s1600/IMG_1580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LIkQ2zGf8A4/Uu1FZnT830I/AAAAAAAAHvw/5RObrom1Pl8/s1600/IMG_1580.JPG" height="512" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next day I made eclairs for us. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X3hb-_6u6AU/Uu_xTfz43sI/AAAAAAAAHw0/PM7v3r42SaA/s1600/IMG_1617.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X3hb-_6u6AU/Uu_xTfz43sI/AAAAAAAAHw0/PM7v3r42SaA/s1600/IMG_1617.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
From scratch. Sometimes I even surprise myself. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ojxtIeEaA3I/Uu_xVuNQyMI/AAAAAAAAHw8/8N0ozp8389Q/s1600/IMG_1621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ojxtIeEaA3I/Uu_xVuNQyMI/AAAAAAAAHw8/8N0ozp8389Q/s1600/IMG_1621.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I will leave you with a peek of the napkins I sewed up from a few yards of fabric a few weeks ago. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XzDvTMQzC_w/Uu_1bKQN3oI/AAAAAAAAHxI/XpkWaXFLUsc/s1600/photo-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XzDvTMQzC_w/Uu_1bKQN3oI/AAAAAAAAHxI/XpkWaXFLUsc/s1600/photo-001.JPG" height="502" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
It was during a particularly brutal part of the polar vortex we all seem to be experiencing around the country this year. So tell me, how are you surviving winter? <br />
<br /></div>
</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The sweetness of an American Goldfinch having breakfast outside our window. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U7EW8BruWU/UuWD0OBFiLI/AAAAAAAAHt0/tYLvhxYc5gM/s1600/IMG_1475.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U7EW8BruWU/UuWD0OBFiLI/AAAAAAAAHt0/tYLvhxYc5gM/s1600/IMG_1475.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
While standing at my kitchen window, I notice the sun illuminating a crucifix on a cemetery statuary across the street. It was my first time ever to see this happen. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_SH9kD6oGc/UuWEFp0hI4I/AAAAAAAAHuI/QB4dltDoRpc/s1600/IMG_1452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_SH9kD6oGc/UuWEFp0hI4I/AAAAAAAAHuI/QB4dltDoRpc/s1600/IMG_1452.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Taken inside the cemetery, here is a close-up of the crucifix. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
A lustrous tea cup unexpectedly and very recently given to me by a friend. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6EpJ9TpkZw/UuWEVe1-FpI/AAAAAAAAHuY/HSAqyrhWS60/s1600/IMG_1505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6EpJ9TpkZw/UuWEVe1-FpI/AAAAAAAAHuY/HSAqyrhWS60/s1600/IMG_1505.JPG" height="468" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My treat at the close of the day, is to<span style="text-align: center;"> drink my own home-made version of Venetian Hot Chocolate from it. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bwRR2f3ZPkU/UuWEabNNP9I/AAAAAAAAHug/LuoReHMC3so/s1600/IMG_1510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bwRR2f3ZPkU/UuWEabNNP9I/AAAAAAAAHug/LuoReHMC3so/s1600/IMG_1510.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">Taken in the fading daylight, my image of it leaves room for improvement, but the dark, rich chocolate inside is heavenly. </span><br />
<br />
And yet another beautiful day in Maine draws to a close leaving me content just to be here. <br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>

I took these pictures while I was on the phone with a friend. Don't worry, I told her there was a bright red cardinal right outside my window. She knows me well enough to know I was reaching for my camera as we discussed how pretty our neighborhood was looking with its fresh dusting of white. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ns8uAt_L4ow/UqcTh_W-HUI/AAAAAAAAHpI/utAln-mXpRk/s1600/IMG_1256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="590" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ns8uAt_L4ow/UqcTh_W-HUI/AAAAAAAAHpI/utAln-mXpRk/s640/IMG_1256.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Holding my breath, I zoomed in on this red beauty, fearful he would flee before I captured the loveliness of his color. My friend on the phone had just spent her first night in her new home just a mere half mile from us and was telling me how happy she was to have it snow on their first day there. She said her woods were so beautiful, she felt as though she was living inside a "Barbie Princess Fairy Tale" in her new place. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hearing her say that made me smile. Her happiness and gratitude for waking up to a beautiful sight in her new home was heartfelt. She was living in the moment, in this normally hurried-up world and I felt her joy. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Recently I was offered a 12-month online course given by Farragoz, in exchange for reviewing and blogging about my progress along the way. Today I am sharing my second completed project, a clock face, that I ended up making into a table. To achieve an authentic aged patina, you learn to make all of the oil stains and paints using inexpensive and common household ingredients. For example, the gold paint I used in my clock face project called for the yolk of an egg! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QMJZ3syaT1c/UoUuhiW7SyI/AAAAAAAAHk0/s1PMbIrDsPw/s1600/photo+(85).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QMJZ3syaT1c/UoUuhiW7SyI/AAAAAAAAHk0/s1PMbIrDsPw/s640/photo+(85).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After going through the process of making this clock face, I realize in hindsight it is relatively easy. You are given step by step instructions, including a template and lots of advice and guidance along the way from your own personal instructor. And like the last project, you simply start out with a plain piece of scrap wood that you learn how to transform into a work of art! <br />
<br />
But before I begin, feast your eyes on the beautiful Farragoz version of this project. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvgu9SlEhvQ/UoVMun33ZII/AAAAAAAAHmA/z7SRIbc_WYI/s1600/clockfacefarragoz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvgu9SlEhvQ/UoVMun33ZII/AAAAAAAAHmA/z7SRIbc_WYI/s640/clockfacefarragoz.jpg" width="476" /></a></div>
<br />
So, below is the scrap piece of wood I used. It is quite heavy and pressure treated, but simply a piece of scrap wood that I started out with. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGHErI_9k4g/UoU58y39q3I/AAAAAAAAHlE/n_DLYO65uN4/s1600/photo+(34).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="538" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGHErI_9k4g/UoU58y39q3I/AAAAAAAAHlE/n_DLYO65uN4/s640/photo+(34).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After applying several layers paint that I mixed up myself using the Farragoz-supplied recipes, I used carbon paper to transfer the design. You may notice that my paint is already starting to crackle in places. That is what you want to happen when you are trying to achieve an authentic aged look. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t9x1ZkFZ6aI/UoU8ZdzsCoI/AAAAAAAAHlQ/imsLiB9YBHY/s1600/photo+(70).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="472" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t9x1ZkFZ6aI/UoU8ZdzsCoI/AAAAAAAAHlQ/imsLiB9YBHY/s640/photo+(70).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Painting all the black details does require a steady hand and a fine tip brush, but already, you can see it start coming to life. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Woon_ATF0Q4/UoU-wCDwfoI/AAAAAAAAHlc/ePawt7RBWgI/s1600/photo+(79).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Woon_ATF0Q4/UoU-wCDwfoI/AAAAAAAAHlc/ePawt7RBWgI/s640/photo+(79).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And now, using the 'secret' egg yolk recipe, I am able to finish off all those gold details. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N6rvnP_Zqb8/UoU_P7MBlPI/AAAAAAAAHlk/l_JQprnl4rs/s1600/photo+(80).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="604" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N6rvnP_Zqb8/UoU_P7MBlPI/AAAAAAAAHlk/l_JQprnl4rs/s640/photo+(80).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then onto my favorite part. Transforming it into an object that portrays an aged surface of what ordinarily requires a great passage of time, or an environment of harsh elements. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iK5yBWzE82o/UoVAXrUqJUI/AAAAAAAAHlw/8lkhBWeLypw/s1600/photo+(83).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iK5yBWzE82o/UoVAXrUqJUI/AAAAAAAAHlw/8lkhBWeLypw/s640/photo+(83).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As I mentioned in the beginning, I decided to turn my clock face into a table. Below is a photo I took of it outside the front of my shop after mounting it on top of an old table base I had. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ou7V8ikalqU/UoVV_egZbSI/AAAAAAAAHmQ/WJkZpxHxPLY/s1600/photo+(86).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ou7V8ikalqU/UoVV_egZbSI/AAAAAAAAHmQ/WJkZpxHxPLY/s640/photo+(86).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I decided a glass top would make it more useful and would help protect its fragile surface too. Plus I am getting a jump on the holiday season while I show you my completed project. TA-DAH!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rM09kn36aVc/UoVXPuMsmWI/AAAAAAAAHmg/1qVgDzsVWJ0/s1600/photo+(87).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="532" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rM09kn36aVc/UoVXPuMsmWI/AAAAAAAAHmg/1qVgDzsVWJ0/s640/photo+(87).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And now a close-up of all the yummy aged details.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s-XIqsYFs4g/UoVXfyX6w4I/AAAAAAAAHmo/f1ryyavqss4/s1600/photo+(88).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s-XIqsYFs4g/UoVXfyX6w4I/AAAAAAAAHmo/f1ryyavqss4/s640/photo+(88).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Eventually it will get added to a new room I am planning for my shop, as a cozy place to sip coffee or tea and perhaps do a little reading. For now, I give you my dreamy, out-of-focus version, until which time I manage to find the perfect little spot in my shop. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>

I am being provided this course for free, but my opinions of it are my own, and just so you know, my opinions of it are very high! Perhaps you want to learn more about this course. To do so, there is a link up at the top of my sidebar that you can click on that describes this course so much better than I ever could. All I know is that I am thoroughly enjoying myself and very eager to start working on my next project! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for my quick project. Below is a framed print on a board I found at a local thrift store for $2 that I ended up using for this makeover. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to do another painting, using some techniques I have learned from the online course: The Art of Patina given by Farragoz.com. I was offered this course in exchange for blogging about my experience along the way. This time I did a version of the "Light of the World" painting of Christ as a child. There are 8 layers of paint and stain on my board. The first 4 layers are the gesso paint that was used as a primer. The other 4, were oil stains, each in a different color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XrGogd6pRzo/Umj303GB1bI/AAAAAAAAHjc/XHuAnDum4Ic/s1600/photo+(65)-003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XrGogd6pRzo/Umj303GB1bI/AAAAAAAAHjc/XHuAnDum4Ic/s640/photo+(65)-003.JPG" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few minutes later, after some tweaking, a much different version began to emerge. A less blond and a much younger child version seemed to unfold. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RWGsvX3q3ro/Umj6D7htdMI/AAAAAAAAHjs/2F5Hku9LUK0/s1600/photo+(57)-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RWGsvX3q3ro/Umj6D7htdMI/AAAAAAAAHjs/2F5Hku9LUK0/s640/photo+(57)-001.JPG" width="632" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have decided to share my progress with you even though it may or may not be finished yet. I will let it set for a while, as I am discovering that tweaking it here and there can really change up the entire mood of a piece. Knowing when to stop is one of my challenges. One thing that is so much fun about this course, is the ability to apply the techniques you learn to different projects. Just in case you want to learn more about this course, I have included a link up at the top of my sidebar. It is highly addictive and very empowering to learn how to make your own paints and oil stains from scratch, and then learn the techniques to apply them to create your own masterpiece. Who knows, I may even sign this one when I am finished. </div>

<br />
Recently, I was offered the opportunity to take an online course for free, in exchange for blogging about it. The course, created by <a href="http://farragoz.com/">Farragoz</a>, teaches techniques for achieving the look of aged patina that is found on centuries old objects and artifacts. I have just completed the first of 5 projects I will be making during this 12 month course. My first project was to make a Byzantine icon of the Archangel Michael.<br />
<br />
The Farragoz version shown below is truly an exquisite work of art.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ciYCvtmTBxc/UlIBd7N3iQI/AAAAAAAAHds/Tr1A37Y_AXc/s1600/farragoz-sample.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ciYCvtmTBxc/UlIBd7N3iQI/AAAAAAAAHds/Tr1A37Y_AXc/s640/farragoz-sample.jpg" width="630" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You are asked to create your own version of this project by following the easy step-by-step instructions and video they provide. You are also assigned your own personal online instructor that is with you each step of the way. I must tell you, by the time I completed my first step of using a jigsaw to cut my wood down to the proper size, I was already feeling pretty empowered. The subsequent instructions had me making my own gesso, casein paint and oil stains, and before I knew it I was learning how to build up layers of them to get the result I was trying to achieve, but not entirely without making a few mistakes that turned out to be invaluable. My first few layers of gesso paint, upon drying overnight, sprouted huge cracks and when accidentally bumped, crumbled into nothingness. My instructor was reassuring and encouraging, and my second attempt was much better. Now I was ready to begin the process of layering oil stains and applying techniques I learned along the way, which brought me to the version you see below. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EgZbA21wO-g/UlG6qT5ThaI/AAAAAAAAHdc/2bcbDj23zj8/s1600/IMG_1025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EgZbA21wO-g/UlG6qT5ThaI/AAAAAAAAHdc/2bcbDj23zj8/s640/IMG_1025.JPG" width="578" /></a></div>
<br />
Now on to the fun part -- it was time for me to give my project a sense of history. Tania, my instructor provided such valuable guidance and support all along each phase of my project. She forewarned me that the steps of aging may make me cringe, but encouraged me to come up with a story explaining the history of my piece and what it may have endured that would go along with how I chose to distress it. So before I show you my completed project, my imagination has run a little wild, and I hope you bear with me in spite of it. <br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ME_FHWb5IM/UlM2b15S14I/AAAAAAAAHeU/rTg_IYDScnk/s1600/IMG_0926.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="418" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ME_FHWb5IM/UlM2b15S14I/AAAAAAAAHeU/rTg_IYDScnk/s640/IMG_0926.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The structure itself faces out to the sea, but directly below, you will catch the sight of vast jagged outcroppings and treacherous terrain.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZeiLpsJaVeo/UlM2g_doGKI/AAAAAAAAHec/FfoNW2R6Peg/s1600/IMG_0938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="398" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZeiLpsJaVeo/UlM2g_doGKI/AAAAAAAAHec/FfoNW2R6Peg/s640/IMG_0938.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Just inside a dimly lit room perched high above the ocean is a long forgotten object. If you were able to peer inside this window you would catch sight of it resting upon an old, dusty settee, quietly awaiting discovery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h9s-thXBcJI/UlM2uJRXjXI/AAAAAAAAHes/ykJo3NZZJPA/s1600/IMG_0930.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h9s-thXBcJI/UlM2uJRXjXI/AAAAAAAAHes/ykJo3NZZJPA/s640/IMG_0930.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So go ahead and peek right in there. You will see it right away. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0wAvSe-d16A/UlNbCcuyyxI/AAAAAAAAHfM/52Zsmi7KhlE/s1600/finished-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0wAvSe-d16A/UlNbCcuyyxI/AAAAAAAAHfM/52Zsmi7KhlE/s640/finished-001.JPG" width="540" /></a></div>
<br />
By the look of this piece, it must have endured exposure to the elements of this harsh terrain. Did it suffer a fall from a sudden wind during an outdoor art exhibit this former Inn was famous for? Or perhaps extreme temperature fluctuations caused the cracking and flaking you see in its surface. Here, take my binoculars and get a better look of it. I know, the window is a bit cloudy, but I want you to see it up close. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tsdMrqTE1bo/UlNbqPKgB7I/AAAAAAAAHfU/U3UfV90x7kM/s1600/finishedclose-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tsdMrqTE1bo/UlNbqPKgB7I/AAAAAAAAHfU/U3UfV90x7kM/s640/finishedclose-001.JPG" width="608" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes of course! A summer wind must have swept it up high into the air before it began its slow spiral to the rocks and salt water down below. Thought to be completely ruined, no one bothered to wipe away the bits of seaweed that will forever stain its surface. It got stowed away, instead of discarded. Still, someone remembers it is there, stored high above the ocean in a dimly lit room. Someone who will never again return for it, still believing it was completely ruined. <br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
As you can probably tell, I had fun. I may have never told you before, but attending art school was something I had always wanted to do way back, when I was much younger. This online course is truly fulfilling my dream of what it would have been like. I do not know how I got so lucky to be selected for this experience, but I can tell you I am savoring every minute of it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I encourage anyone, who may want to learn more about this course, to visit the Farragoz website by clicking the link found <a href="http://farragoz.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=171&Itemid=874">here</a>. I have also included a link on my sidebar to make it easy to find information of how to sign up for this course. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
(And isn't it rather sneaky of me to include images from a recent trip we made to York, Maine for the purpose of illustrating my story.)<br />

<br />
These gorgeous summer days are truly the time to savor life here in Maine. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XAu5rZ_Qasw/Uf6vVshgPfI/AAAAAAAAHXc/3oLjEus0IVY/s1600/IMG_9775.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XAu5rZ_Qasw/Uf6vVshgPfI/AAAAAAAAHXc/3oLjEus0IVY/s640/IMG_9775.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The light and reflections in the water were meant to be photographed. So here I am again with another post so soon after my long absence. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wuEFQWzdgP0/Uf6vLbXoFNI/AAAAAAAAHXE/W23WeTW6e5M/s1600/IMG_9831.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wuEFQWzdgP0/Uf6vLbXoFNI/AAAAAAAAHXE/W23WeTW6e5M/s640/IMG_9831.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The last of the rosa rugosa blooms continue to hold my fascination. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bMFdpk5iiCA/Uf6vO3VeVQI/AAAAAAAAHXM/a8_1W-88Sng/s1600/IMG_9778.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bMFdpk5iiCA/Uf6vO3VeVQI/AAAAAAAAHXM/a8_1W-88Sng/s640/IMG_9778.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WS4bVFXv2aA/Uf6vShIDBFI/AAAAAAAAHXU/vp32o7NiUmM/s1600/IMG_9781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WS4bVFXv2aA/Uf6vShIDBFI/AAAAAAAAHXU/vp32o7NiUmM/s640/IMG_9781.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Along with any movement in the water. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I2RONYjkL90/Uf6vYbA9lpI/AAAAAAAAHXk/hQ9je5KgP9I/s1600/IMG_9808.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I2RONYjkL90/Uf6vYbA9lpI/AAAAAAAAHXk/hQ9je5KgP9I/s640/IMG_9808.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It is both exciting and all at once equally peaceful and serene here too. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pFZhCDHFzMg/Uf6va-G0nRI/AAAAAAAAHXs/0OtJozdlTpA/s1600/IMG_9753.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pFZhCDHFzMg/Uf6va-G0nRI/AAAAAAAAHXs/0OtJozdlTpA/s640/IMG_9753.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And just for your amusement, a sweet pup anticipating the thrill of a ride across the bay. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtKNAbLjw7I/Uf6y_79CRbI/AAAAAAAAHX8/KdBQ3fIq9Ig/s1600/IMG_9837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="462" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtKNAbLjw7I/Uf6y_79CRbI/AAAAAAAAHX8/KdBQ3fIq9Ig/s640/IMG_9837.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
A "Sorrento" take on what is typically known as the dog days of summer. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is somewhat awkward for me to begin a new post after such a long absence. So here's my excuse. I live just a couple miles from this scene. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9ACEh3NT8oE/UfbqRY9eEsI/AAAAAAAAHVA/YqRKzeb76cs/s1600/harborcanvas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9ACEh3NT8oE/UfbqRY9eEsI/AAAAAAAAHVA/YqRKzeb76cs/s640/harborcanvas.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
So this IS my excuse for my long absence. It is magical here. So what happens is, days go by and turn into weeks and then months until you realize you are unable to fully capture a fitting photo of your most favorite place in the world that could possibly convey it's essence to anyone who has never visited here. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But even that does not keep me from trying. Today there was a fog bank that partially obscured the mountains of Acadia and I was simply beside myself trying in vain to do it justice. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XlBDHhCw_h0/Ufb6zJCghjI/AAAAAAAAHWs/bAgSE24NrCU/s1600/IMG_9661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="482" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XlBDHhCw_h0/Ufb6zJCghjI/AAAAAAAAHWs/bAgSE24NrCU/s640/IMG_9661.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While I was there today, there were a couple lobster men checking traps. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VenFKVilr50/UfbvZE4Ps0I/AAAAAAAAHVY/A-ZuGzj-3Vo/s1600/IMG_9693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="510" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VenFKVilr50/UfbvZE4Ps0I/AAAAAAAAHVY/A-ZuGzj-3Vo/s640/IMG_9693.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These are just everyday scenes of life here, but sometimes one will come along and strike a cord with me and I realize I have been lucky enough to capture someone else's quiet moment returning from a hard day's work. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9njCrErz0nw/UfbxfmLCAuI/AAAAAAAAHVw/zMmobSjUHfk/s1600/IMG_9497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9njCrErz0nw/UfbxfmLCAuI/AAAAAAAAHVw/zMmobSjUHfk/s640/IMG_9497.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is about the end of the bloom season for the wild beach roses, known as the rosa rugosa. It seems their blooms are as fleeting as our summers here. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r1k5IkHqsXo/Ufb7S4BnKxI/AAAAAAAAHW0/rc87Sk6V9Gw/s1600/IMG_4629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r1k5IkHqsXo/Ufb7S4BnKxI/AAAAAAAAHW0/rc87Sk6V9Gw/s640/IMG_4629.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mmQOUEC2iw/UfbzYRKa4JI/AAAAAAAAHWI/DlywucGc5wQ/s1600/IMG_9364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="524" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mmQOUEC2iw/UfbzYRKa4JI/AAAAAAAAHWI/DlywucGc5wQ/s640/IMG_9364.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As you walk along the shore you need not stop to smell the roses, their scent follows you everywhere. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Alr_sMxym9M/UfbzlQ0MrTI/AAAAAAAAHWQ/woHckc2W0Gs/s1600/IMG_9439.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Alr_sMxym9M/UfbzlQ0MrTI/AAAAAAAAHWQ/woHckc2W0Gs/s640/IMG_9439.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But anyway, now you know my excuse for such a long interval between my posts. I remain all wrapped up in my own little world most days taking in all the sights and sounds that we who live here are blessed to behold. Although apologies may be in order, I will refrain from giving them today and leave you only with my excuses. <br />
There is a knowing when you finally reach a level of understanding regarding beans. In New England, the proper making of a Saturday night bean supper is steeped in tradition and one must never under estimate the importance of having achieved enlightenment on the subject of beans. In all my 58 growing on 59 years, I never understood that until recently. It suddenly occurred to me that I, Lili, daughter of Lurlene, grand daughter of Mayfair, gr. granddaughter of Ida had finally attained my very own version of bean wisdom. <br />
<br />
It is not so much the bean recipe that you use. It is more of a mindset. The proper planning, the proper fussing, the proper acquiring, sorting, assembly, oven logistics, to name a few. There is so much to know. And then, you have to temper all this with the proper fretting about the beans. Not just sometimes, but all times. Because you must never stir the beans while they are baking. The proper tip and swirl of the pot must be learned. And you have to be extremely careful about how much liquid you add to them while they are cooking. And not just how much liquid, these things cannot be measured. It actually involves relying heavily on "bean knowledge." Once you know, you know. These things cannot be taught in a recipe or even a day or a month of making beans. It takes the proper coming of age to know about beans. Although my bean recipe has evolved into a vegetarian version, my fore mothers' always used salt pork. But again, it is not the recipe that is important. Well really in a way it is, but I will not be talking about that in this post. <br />
<br />
About 13 years ago, I actually thought I could make beans. Little did I know, my internship was just beginning. I still remember it well. I was "up ta camp" as they say around here, and eager to have my mother and step father over for a typical Saturday night bean supper. Looking back, I realize I missed nearly all of the finer intricacies of this sacred ritual. I would have been better off going to the local general store to purchase a container of these properly baked and fretted over staples of Maine life, and then stuffing them into my newly purchased <a href="http://www.renys.com/">Reny's</a>-bought bean pot. But what I learned from my fervent attempt to make my Mama proud was golden. <br />
<br />
On this particular Saturday evening "up ta camp," it happened about 40 minutes after the beans were officially done. The problem being, this occurred when the beans were still in the oven. And no amount of advice, wisdom or fretting could have saved them. I am talking about witnessing an intervention by the 'bean doctors.' It was unnerving to realize what was happening. With my oven rack partially pulled out, I reached in with my oven mitt to remove the cover of my beautiful bean pot to proudly display the contents, hoping to find them at the peak of perfection. Cover removed, I took a step back as my mother and step father made their way toward the oven, both tentatively hunched over my bean pot peering into its depth in<i><b> silence</b></i>. "What? . . .<b><i>what</i></b>?" I nervously uttered. Even they were at a loss. I could tell in the knowing glance they gave each other. No words. Just a polite smile and a knowing glance.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CTOvOyYJDt4/UTyk5vmgiKI/AAAAAAAAHQ4/vDLUCUj0tmg/s1600/beandr.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CTOvOyYJDt4/UTyk5vmgiKI/AAAAAAAAHQ4/vDLUCUj0tmg/s640/beandr.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We ate the beans anyway. They ate the beans too. Bean wisdom is not about feeling smug, or being unkind to a novice bean baker. Part of this sacred ritual is to subject yourself to the fervent efforts of others that have yet to attain bean enlightenment, and to repeatedly endure whatever is offered up in the hopes that one day it will all be worth it.<br />
<br />
Of course it is not so much about the day that this happens. As it has been happening for me for some time now. It is more the moment that you realize it HAS happened and you cannot even remember when your first pot of perfect beans was finally achieved. <br />
<br />
So for posterity, I submit to you a humble image of my own pot of New England baked beans. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bi1zpF6t944/UTy2y7aWH9I/AAAAAAAAHRY/FUGwNvjG6CU/s1600/IMG_8207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bi1zpF6t944/UTy2y7aWH9I/AAAAAAAAHRY/FUGwNvjG6CU/s640/IMG_8207.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is the recipe for my version. But only the recipe. The proper making of them is something you may enjoy attaining on your own too. {wink}<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>New England Baked Beans</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(For use with navy beans, pea beans, great Northern beans or any dry bean that is your favorite.) </div>
<br />
<u>Night Before Baking</u>: Sort and soak 2 cups of beans in a 4-6 quart pan. Water should cover the beans by about 2 inches. <br />
<br />
<u>Early Next Morning</u>:<br />
<br />
Turn your oven to 350 degrees and take out all racks except for one, which should be in the middle position. <br />
<br />
Drain and rinse soaked beans. Parboil beans in covered pan starting with fresh cold water. When the beans get to boiling, lift off cover and skim and discard all that foam. Only parboil for about 10 minutes, then drain water. <br />
<br />
Now, take your bean pot and in the bottom put 1 large peeled and sliced-in-half onion. Add 2 T. unsalted butter, cut in slices. Then, add some freshly grated pepper. Now, is the time to add your drained beans over the top of that. <br />
<br />
In a 2 cup measure, mix: 1/4 cup oil, 1/3 cup molasses (preferably <a href="http://www.crosbys.com/">Crosby's</a>), 1 tsp. ground mustard, and a heaping tsp.of sea salt. Fill to the top with hot water and stir. And then pour the contents over the top of the beans. Make sure it just covers the beans. If it does not, add just the slightest bit of hot water until it does.<br />
<br />
Cover your bean pot and sit it on the rack in the middle of your oven, then TURN YOUR OVEN DOWN TO 275 DEGREES to cook for several hours. The first time you will probably need to check your beans is about 2 hours or so into baking. At that time, lift the lid and check to make sure your beans are not drying out. You will probably need to add water at this point. But do it sparingly. You do not want to dilute that good bean juice. Keep doing this about every couple hours. Mine usually are done by hour 5, or when I have fretted over them long enough, whichever comes first. <br />
<br />
*********<br />
<br />
NOTE: I cannot stress enough that this is my own personal version of baked beans. After all, we all must find our own way in the pursuit of baked bean nirvana. </div>

Winter is for nesting. If you could see the mess I make of our place this time of year you would wonder what was going on. Whenever I am not quite sure what it is I want to work on, I have a tendency to just pull out everything I feel like working on and scatter it all over our tiny, yet normally uncluttered space. For the past week I have just left my ironing board up and my sewing machine out. Just about every horizontal surface is covered with fabrics, yarns, and embroidery supplies along with an assortment of knitting needles and crochet hooks. Even the floor has not been spared, as it is the only place I could find to use my self-healing cutting mat. <br />
<br />
But if you will follow me into my kitchen, there is something that I want to show you. It's a place I have managed to create a little bit of serenity for myself. Specifically . . . right inside my refrigerator's crisper drawer! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K_2ucoRftuY/USgHjI8wbwI/AAAAAAAAHPY/DK3JNGzv4jI/s1600/01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="508" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K_2ucoRftuY/USgHjI8wbwI/AAAAAAAAHPY/DK3JNGzv4jI/s640/01.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My crisper drawer is the single most efficient space in my household right now and it has become my latest organization obsession. So here's why. We eat a fair amount of vegetables, but if I even notice any of that icky slime starting to develop on them, they end up going to waste. And frankly, it just bothers me when I have to throw out food. So, I decided to replace all those plastic baggies and containers with a more eco-friendly material that will let our vegetables breathe and stay fresh for a little longer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dVplT6oEixo/USgHl9qvx6I/AAAAAAAAHPg/0bmDW5L7PvQ/s1600/02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dVplT6oEixo/USgHl9qvx6I/AAAAAAAAHPg/0bmDW5L7PvQ/s640/02.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I just used flour sack towels and sewed them into bags of assorted sizes. This is also the perfect material to use for embroidery, so I put a bird on it! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CI3DPb0ulfA/USgHouaE2UI/AAAAAAAAHPo/-_OvNFDJHuE/s1600/03.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CI3DPb0ulfA/USgHouaE2UI/AAAAAAAAHPo/-_OvNFDJHuE/s640/03.JPG" width="598" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BhAia2BogNg/USgHqrieYrI/AAAAAAAAHPw/dnJUEpMgKg8/s1600/04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BhAia2BogNg/USgHqrieYrI/AAAAAAAAHPw/dnJUEpMgKg8/s400/04.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5E-_vReAqnI/USgHs4MbSxI/AAAAAAAAHP4/b-efctS9Z0E/s1600/07.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5E-_vReAqnI/USgHs4MbSxI/AAAAAAAAHP4/b-efctS9Z0E/s640/07.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EDtm_Ta3awo/USgHwIEcqLI/AAAAAAAAHQA/yMGLWlQx_7E/s1600/IMG_8002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="460" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EDtm_Ta3awo/USgHwIEcqLI/AAAAAAAAHQA/yMGLWlQx_7E/s640/IMG_8002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Adding the bird was a little more time consuming, so I decided to experiment with a personalized monogram on a few, which are slated for family and friends.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BHQLHT76wZA/USgHys12FrI/AAAAAAAAHQI/6TCM5evp7Aw/s1600/08.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BHQLHT76wZA/USgHys12FrI/AAAAAAAAHQI/6TCM5evp7Aw/s640/08.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And so, the nesting will continue for a little while more, because I suspect we are not quite done with winter around here. But when garden planting time arrives, my little winter nesting activity will assure there will be plenty of my breathable storage bags on hand to keep my harvest garden fresh! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And for some reason I focused on studying his plumage, wondering why I had never noticed the white tail feathers before. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mv5nwqkmc5Y/UOtrlDEq31I/AAAAAAAAHIk/vLJRrnDRZfQ/s1600/IMG_7362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="484" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mv5nwqkmc5Y/UOtrlDEq31I/AAAAAAAAHIk/vLJRrnDRZfQ/s640/IMG_7362.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But the one thing that took me by surprise was his reaction to a flock of gulls that were flying over.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WHY7effvIHE/UOtrw-ARLnI/AAAAAAAAHI8/wohHmDu6ACs/s1600/IMG_7396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WHY7effvIHE/UOtrw-ARLnI/AAAAAAAAHI8/wohHmDu6ACs/s640/IMG_7396.JPG" width="430" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
His unusual pose made me laugh. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KmTnRGJeStA/UOtr2MIeL0I/AAAAAAAAHJE/gOyQSZD38TE/s1600/IMG_7352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KmTnRGJeStA/UOtr2MIeL0I/AAAAAAAAHJE/gOyQSZD38TE/s640/IMG_7352.JPG" width="502" /></a></div>
<br />
He rolled and twisted his head and then looked straight up in the air. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zJXo_60MVKs/UOtr5TK5iuI/AAAAAAAAHJM/ocUp_trDR9A/s1600/IMG_7350.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zJXo_60MVKs/UOtr5TK5iuI/AAAAAAAAHJM/ocUp_trDR9A/s640/IMG_7350.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
A behavior I had seen many times before from my parrot. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KBO4P2cjYuM/UOtr_QpV_CI/AAAAAAAAHJU/2YXeDCR-6zo/s1600/IMG_7366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="564" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KBO4P2cjYuM/UOtr_QpV_CI/AAAAAAAAHJU/2YXeDCR-6zo/s640/IMG_7366.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
All at once, I recognized the subtle language he was speaking. This wild bird of prey. And it was an amazing moment for someone who almost left home without her camera. </div>

We are covered in white...glorious white. Notice my tiny greenhouse right there, all tucked in for winter. <br />

No pictures of this, but at one point I called shotgun to ride along with Henri. It was the first time I had ever been inside a truck while it rammed a 4 ft. snow bank. For that I was not prepared. Surprisingly (to me), after the initial jolt I found it rather exhilarating. Who <i><b>knew</b></i>!<br />

We decided to let the snow pile up over there. For now, it will serve as a dreamy white winter wonderland, where the focus of my many thoughts and dreams for it will await in anticipation of a spring reopening! Wishing everyone a safe and very blessed New Year! </div>

<br />
And for some reason before I go to bed tonight as I look out my window, I want to end the year with this quote from John Irving's The Cider House Rules. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Goodnight all you Princes of Maine, all you Kings of New England." </div>

<br />
<br />
It's the first Halloween without my Simon and I am remembering so many good times with him throughout our 36 years together. Halloween was always such a fun night for us and we always dressed up and entertained anyone who came to our door for candy. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tf3yAgpEIJA/UJGKXxA13WI/AAAAAAAAHAw/OfsVK70NpQY/s1600/pirates_111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tf3yAgpEIJA/UJGKXxA13WI/AAAAAAAAHAw/OfsVK70NpQY/s640/pirates_111.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Simon could hold a pose long enough to make many a person think he was just a prop, and then when he finally moved he would join in with the laughter and shrieks that ensued! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BvagrVIr73A/UJGKJdIvTkI/AAAAAAAAHAo/Mk2Actslq7k/s1600/pirate+063+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BvagrVIr73A/UJGKJdIvTkI/AAAAAAAAHAo/Mk2Actslq7k/s640/pirate+063+%25281%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't know if we will ever end up with another sweet creature to share our life with, but my mind is now open after reading a recent post that was in our town's monthly newsletter. Here it is below:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><span style="font-size: large;">A Pet's Last Will</span></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Before humans die, they write their will: give their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If my paws could do the same, this is what I would do.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">To a poor and lonely stray I'd give: my happy home, my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys, the lap which I loved so much and the hand that stroked my fur, and the sweet voice that spoke my name. I would will to the sad, scared shelter dog the place I had in my human's loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds. So when I die, please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand." Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope and give my place to him.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is the only thing I can give . . . the love I leave behind. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
*****************************************************************************</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Halloween everyone. And to all you little gobblins out there stay safe and bring home lots of candy!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a photo that Henri took that I recently found on my camera. I thought it was so simple and sweet and for me it was a reminder of something I have not done in a long time. While I am still sleeping, my dear husband has his own routine of sitting quietly by the window enjoying his first cup of coffee. More and more I find myself distracted by Pinterest as I sip my coffee. Looking at this photo I realized I needed to start giving equal time into finding inspiration from nature as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rr1VIcxnEcs/UH12p_6zXpI/AAAAAAAAG-Q/uKt3gxj1pOs/s1600/IMG_6116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rr1VIcxnEcs/UH12p_6zXpI/AAAAAAAAG-Q/uKt3gxj1pOs/s640/IMG_6116.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Armed with our bicycles and camera we headed over to one of the carriage trails in Acadia National Park on a brisk yet sunny morning. It had been a while since we rode our bikes and of course we ended up having to walk them up many of the long grades there. I always sympathize whenever I see the horses pulling the carriages up these steep grades. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L_0knqIHsv0/UH19BN7iuhI/AAAAAAAAG_g/5Ili1IGgT7o/s1600/IMG_5868-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="506" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L_0knqIHsv0/UH19BN7iuhI/AAAAAAAAG_g/5Ili1IGgT7o/s640/IMG_5868-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The shot below was Henri's idea and I had never tried this before, although I had always wanted to. I used my bicycle seat to balance my camera while using a low speed setting on my camera to try to slow down the flow of the water. He always has the ability to keep me focused, even though I may grumble and continue to be too distracted. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fpgazd1P3w/UH126FSJ29I/AAAAAAAAG-g/2yuabS0u4J4/s1600/IMG_5987.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="608" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fpgazd1P3w/UH126FSJ29I/AAAAAAAAG-g/2yuabS0u4J4/s640/IMG_5987.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
After a while though, it was me slowing down to catch a shot of this glistening web. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AbgGJ2a1088/UH128nFHKkI/AAAAAAAAG-s/Tr1kozYwTvw/s1600/IMG_5754.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="538" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AbgGJ2a1088/UH128nFHKkI/AAAAAAAAG-s/Tr1kozYwTvw/s640/IMG_5754.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then one to capture the colors of this scenic vista along the trail. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9zrgFG3UnRU/UH2AcyX7NGI/AAAAAAAAG_0/3KLoFyh-O40/s1600/IMG_6006-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9zrgFG3UnRU/UH2AcyX7NGI/AAAAAAAAG_0/3KLoFyh-O40/s640/IMG_6006-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We enjoyed a bit of hiking too in the early morning mist. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4flZ3iGVswU/UH13AcDqeHI/AAAAAAAAG-8/qFvMSniV5a8/s1600/IMG_5716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4flZ3iGVswU/UH13AcDqeHI/AAAAAAAAG-8/qFvMSniV5a8/s640/IMG_5716.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Being able to capture some pictures again for this blog helps keep me focused. I thank you for bearing with me despite my long absence in between posts. You all are the best! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Sometimes real life holds many more surprises for us than perhaps what our imaginations could even conjure up to write about. I thought it time to reveal to you the reason for my long absence on this blog. It's because of what I am announcing over on my other blog <b><a href="http://frenchmansbaytea.blogspot.com/">frenchmans bay tea co.</a></b> I hope you pay me a visit to find out. It's also the reason why I have not been able to connect lately with so many of my blog friends that I adore. Please bear with me as I slowly get back in touch with all of you! <br />

You all have helped me so much to find comfort after the loss of my beloved parrot Simon with your many comments, correspondence and words of encouragement. Thank you so much for that. And, for your patience with me finding my way back into blog land again. I am way overdue to visit with each of you again and I plan to remedy that in the days to come. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCV__JGoVk4/T-5fJMsbL2I/AAAAAAAAG34/4wGkvall5Ns/s1600/IMG_4337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="539" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCV__JGoVk4/T-5fJMsbL2I/AAAAAAAAG34/4wGkvall5Ns/s640/IMG_4337.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Until recently, it had been a long while since I last picked up my camera. So long in fact, that my tulips were still in bloom. Back when it was early spring. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kx46C1HMps0/T-5fKHKBAYI/AAAAAAAAG4A/bLsk9sVE1lM/s1600/IMG_4340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="546" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kx46C1HMps0/T-5fKHKBAYI/AAAAAAAAG4A/bLsk9sVE1lM/s640/IMG_4340.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And I had yet to plant my white geraniums in my cherub flower pots that reside at the entrance of my tiny greenhouse. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--n4KDvUkmVA/T-5fLXr-U0I/AAAAAAAAG4I/Qm8o0h6_7do/s1600/IMG_4343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--n4KDvUkmVA/T-5fLXr-U0I/AAAAAAAAG4I/Qm8o0h6_7do/s640/IMG_4343.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The day that I actually picked up my camera again, this is one of the first photos I took. It was not until I got home and saw this photo that I realized what this gull was up to. It was a lucky shot indeed. Like a gift to remind me of the simple beauty in everyday events that are always unfolding all around us. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e24Jr1aHYRY/T-5fNAorWxI/AAAAAAAAG4Q/Eytj_cpiDQs/s1600/IMG_4462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e24Jr1aHYRY/T-5fNAorWxI/AAAAAAAAG4Q/Eytj_cpiDQs/s640/IMG_4462.JPG" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So lately, I have gotten back into the habit of picture taking. And Henri and I have been going fishing too. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AuhjU0yk5Eo/T-5fWGN56sI/AAAAAAAAG4Y/lBsi_pRSndU/s1600/IMG_4539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AuhjU0yk5Eo/T-5fWGN56sI/AAAAAAAAG4Y/lBsi_pRSndU/s640/IMG_4539.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Although I may not divulge our favorite fishing hole, I will tell you it is a lake somewhere in Acadia National Park. It has been a very healing experience for me there. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w0g0EoMU2RY/T-5fYIWalhI/AAAAAAAAG4g/2lQrt-bF2TU/s1600/IMG_4605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w0g0EoMU2RY/T-5fYIWalhI/AAAAAAAAG4g/2lQrt-bF2TU/s640/IMG_4605.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And at the end of the day we even end up with something good for dinner. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-una04bwM5zE/T-5faJ8lhiI/AAAAAAAAG4o/vll5wE5PULE/s1600/IMG_4513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-una04bwM5zE/T-5faJ8lhiI/AAAAAAAAG4o/vll5wE5PULE/s640/IMG_4513.JPG" width="568" /></a></div>
<br />
They are called brook trout and they are very tasty. Here's a closer picture of our catch. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Md3_xl_WxQ4/T-5fcoehoYI/AAAAAAAAG4w/MGZabPJQAIU/s1600/IMG_4512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Md3_xl_WxQ4/T-5fcoehoYI/AAAAAAAAG4w/MGZabPJQAIU/s640/IMG_4512.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
In case you wonder, it was me that scored the largest catch of the day. In fact, I even caught the smallest one you see right there too. Said another way, Henri caught the one in the middle. I suppose I could have just told you that to begin with. But either way, it makes for a fine looking trio...don't you think? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
It sure feels good to be back posting again. Thank you all for bearing with me and for all your support in my continued healing. </div>
